The cherished bodegas and tiny shops that have forever dotted NYC's city blocks are disappearing one by one, and artist Randy Hage, a model maker for film and TV, hopes to help preserve some sense of the city's soul through a recent personal project he has launched where he builds tiny, unbelievably accurate and realistic miniatures of these unique storefronts.

This is my first video "bet you didn't know". But it's a good one.
In an earlier post I used a Frank Gehry quote to illustrate how creative inspiration can come from anywhere. Jenna made a brilliant post on her blog about very much the same thing using this video of Tinker Hatfield, the nike shoe designer who was inspired by the exposed guts of a modern Paris building resulting in the creation of the first exposed air bubble in a shoe.

My sister, Erin, sent me this article from the NYT on innovative parking decks. The basic gist is that city planners and developers are rethinking the way parking decks work in densely populated cities. Taking a cue from Tokyo and vending machine logic cars are getting auto stacked in robo-garages. Cool.

greg lamarche

The work of Greg Lamarche has really caught my eye recently. I first caught a glimpse of his stuff in Arkitip .

A painter, designer, and legendary graffiti don, Lamarche recently painted his lush script landscapes on the Coney Island Museum signage, the Kid Robot Store in New York and numerous Gotham delivery trucks. His indoor work has been shown at Track 16 and Black Market Galleries in LA, McCaig-Welles in New York and Punch Gallery in San Francisco. Lamarche participated in Dreamland 2004 for which he painted the Tunnel between Deno’s Kiddie Park and the Wonder Wheel with Darrell Dulude.
