Erin's guest blog and some cozy time with Dwell on the airplanes has momentarily got me all hyped up about architecture & design. That said, I saw a post on SwissMiss and thought I'd encourage everyone to check out this site and vote.
The American Institute of Architecture is celebrating American... well... architecture. To be honest, the site is just barely cool. I feel like it could be so much more so. I'd love to see what Jonathan Harris could have done with this idea. (creator of We Feel Fine and phylotaxis)
It also points out that the average bloke going to the site has some mediocre taste in architecture. (click pic to enlarge) Or does it just point out that on average, people just don't know much about architecture? I should have picked a Frank Gehry building as a fav, but I had to throw a bone to the cities of my past – NY, Seattle, and now SF (present). Grand Central truly is a marvel; the Chrysler Building sets the bar for "defining" a city skyline; the MoMA is superb; the Golden Gate is just awesome and unique; and the Seattle Public Library is perhaps today's modern architectural masterpiece. I honestly rank access to that public library as one of the top reasons I'll miss living in Seattle. (more on this and the architect in a later post)
And all this architecture talk reminds me of one of my favorite quotes of all time.
Architecture is frozen music. – Goethe
You just can't beat that.
Oh, and by the way, "markitecture" is just a ridiculous adverjargon term I heard the other day. Use it at your own risk.
